SAT and ACT registration forms are available from Mrs. Milo and in our library. To register for the January 26th, 2008 SAT, you must do so online at collegeboard.com by December 26th, 2007.    Students who wish to take the Feb. 9th, 2008 ACT must register online @ act.org by Jan. 4th, 2008 – or pay late fees, almost double.   Fee waivers CANNOT be used with late registration.  Those who use SAT fee waivers can also get college application fee waivers, too! Our school code or CEEB is 380647 and should be used on all test registrations.

Juniors (and Seniors) who have not yet taken the SAT – go to: www.collegeboard.com.  At the SAT Preparation Center, you can download a FREE, full-length official SAT practice test!  After you’ve taken it, review the free score and skills report with explanations for all the answers.

 

Juniors and Seniors - Try taking the ACT college entrance exam if you are not satisfied with your SAT score.  Wrong answers do not count against you, and it tests in four areas:  Math, English, Science, and Social Studies.  Mrs. Milo has applications and study guides in her office and in the library.

 

Fee waivers are available from Mrs. Milo.  Check with her to see if your family’s income qualifies.  If it does, you can use the SAT fee waiver for 2 tests, and the ACT fee waiver for 1 test.  Also, if you use a fee waiver for testing with the SAT, you will qualify to receive up to 4 College Registration fee waivers.  DO check with Mrs. Milo if you have financial need!

 

Those who registered online for their SAT can receive their scores on the Web 16 days after each test.   A full score report will be available online for free to all test-takers.  To use this feature, students will need to create their own personalized accounts in My Organizer at www.collegeboard.com_.

 

Online Registration for 2007-08 for SAT’s:

Students can get a head start on college planning for 2007-08. In early June, they can go online to register for 2007-08 SAT® tests. The 2007-08 SAT test dates, fees, and registration deadlines are posted on the Web at www.collegeboard.com/satreg under Calendar & Fees. This service is also available by phone for students who have previously registered for the SAT.

 

Want to score well on the SAT?  Go online to collegeboard.com where you will receive the SAT “Question of the Day.  Also, at this site is the SAT Preparation Center that contains test directions, sample questions, and a practice test.

The Federal School Code List will be available online for the 2008-2009 Award Year starting Nov. 1, 2007.  It is also available on the FAFSA on the Web page under “Find my School Codes and under the “Before Beginning a FAFSA” section at www.fafsa.ed.gov/.

Seniors and senior parents - The College Financial Aid Information Night will be on

Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 in Mrs. Milo’s room.  During that meeting, from 7-8:15 p.m., you can get a packet of information from Mrs. Milo and a Financial Aid person from RCC will carefully go over how to fill-out the FAFSA form – needed to qualify for college loans and scholarships.   She is also available for help regarding college during the day to help answer your questions.  Call her at school for an appointment.

Juniors AND SENIORS: The Students of Integrity Scholarship Program, sponsored by the Better Business Bureau has redesigned their website with updates for the scholarship.  The new address for this scholarship application is: www.alaskaoregon westernwashington.bbb.org/scholarship

Deadline for application is:  November 30, 2007.

 

The Oregon Vietnamese Community Association (OVCA) is awarding scholarships to students of Vietnamese or Vietnamese-American descent, seniors, 3.85 GPA+, and active in the community or extracurricular activities. Get an application from Mrs. Milo.  DUE:  Nov.   30, 2007

 

Seniors – check your college application forms for dates of Early Admission!  Some may have deadlines as early as November 1, 2007 and throughout the month of November 2007.  Don’t miss out if you are applying for early admission.  See Mrs. Milo if you have any questions!

 

Interested at all in the Air Force?  The AFROTC scholarship is DUE by December 1, 2007.

If you are a young woman, aged 14 - 17, who volunteers in your community or school, you may be eligible for the Soroptimist International Scholarship award.  Get an application NOW from Mrs. Milo.  We just received these and they are DUE:  December 1st, 2007.

 

JUNIORS - If you are interested in attending a summer academic program – absolutely free – please talk to Mrs. Milo.  The Tellerude Association offers seminars at the following locations: 2 at Cornell University, and one each at the Univ. of Michigan and the Univ. of Texas at Austin.  Students who usually attend these do so because they want a personal and intellectual challenge.  There are no grades or college credit.  They participate solely for the pleasure and rewards of learning with intelligent, highly motivated students of diverse backgrounds. Medford Elks’ Lodge has sent us scholarship applications for all (US citizen) seniors AND for seniors who are children or grandchildren of active Elks membersApplicants are judged on scholarship, leadership, employment and community service, as well as an essay.  Awards range from $250 - $500 on the local level, and if you continue in the competition, there are 4 year awards of up to $15,000 per year. We have had MANY winners of this wonderful scholarship, so See Mrs. Milo for an application.  

DUE:  January 11, 2008. (Mrs. Milo now has the forms – come get one)!!!

 

The 2007 Sam Walton COMMUNITY Scholarship will be available online from November 1, 2007-January 14, 2008.  It is a non-renewable $1,000 award for the student’s first year of college.  To qualify, you must be a graduating senior with no employment ties to Wal-Mart.

Go online _www.walmartfoundation.org_ and the access code SWCS must be used to access this application process.  We have had winners before. 

 

Interested in the United States Air Force Academy?  The application deadline is January 31, 2008 and can be done online at www.academyadmissions.com

 

The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) will accept applications for students until February 1, 2008.  The AMDA is an accredited institution offering full-time, two-year programs in Acting and Musical Theatre and currently enrolls over 700 students who come from all 50 states, Canada, and other countries.  Talk to Mrs. Milo if you wish to be nominated for study here and she will nominate you.  For more information call admissions in New York at 800-367-7908 or admissions in Los Angeles at 866-374-5300 or visit the web site at www.AMDA.edu.  There is a poster in the hall with more details.

 

Check out OIT (Oregon Institute of Technology) located in Klamath Falls, Oregon.  This institute boasts of its grads moving into fulfilling, high-paying careers right after graduation.  Many Bachelor of Science degrees are offered ranging from sciences, engineering, to medical technologies.  For more information call 800-422-2017 or go online at oit@oit.edu.  Students who are ADMITTED BY FEBRUARY 1, 2008 automatically get the Dean’s Academic Scholarships if they meet 2 of 3 criteria:  $3,500 for National Merit Scholarship Finalists, $2,500 with 3.9 GPA, &/or 1300 SAT or 29 ACT, or Top 5% Class Rank; $1,500 with 3.6 GPA &/or 1200 SAT or 27 ACT or Top 10% Class Rank; or $1,000 if 3.3 GPA &/or 1100 SAT or 24 ACT, or Top 20% Class Rank.  They strongly encourage ONLINE applications. Special visitation days are in Jan. & Feb. 2007.  We have had many grads attend OIT and there are reports of good opportunities for Christian Fellowship there, too!

 

 

The Fairy Godmother Scholarship is for high school senior women who are Jackson County residents from lower income family.  You MUST plan to attend an OREGON college.  Gen an application from Mrs. Milo.  These ARE DUE to Mrs. Milo by Feb. 22, 2008.  We have had many winners.  DO APPLY! It’s worth the time!

 

Interested in a career with travel, hospitality, or the culinary arts?  The International Air and Hospitality Academy, located in Vancouver, WA is offering 3- $1,000 Airline Scholarships and 1 - $2,000 Culinary Scholarship to be awarded to students from CCHS.  If you wish to be nominated for either or both of these scholarships, contact Mrs. Milo.  For more information call 1-800-868-1816 or go online to www.aha.edu/nomination_form.php  Classes begin July – December 2008.  (Mrs. Milo must register you for the scholarship so contact her to apply).
